The onslaught of state-level anti-gun, anti-hunting bills continues as Washington joins a list of states seeking to infringe upon their residents’ Second Amendment rights—this time in Washington where the state senate just passed its version of a permit-to-purchase scheme on April 14 in the form of House Bill 1163. The NRA Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA) is urging NRA members, gun owners and hunters statewide to make their voices heard in opposition to the bill as it heads back to the House for concurrence with the Senate’s amendments before its final passage.
H.B. 1163 establishes a permit-to-purchase scheme mandating the state government’s permission to purchase or transfer a firearm, includes a required live-fire training component, and creates an illegal government registry of firearm owners and their personal information. Instead of addressing Washington’s crime problem as the bill’s proponents say, it will only make firearm ownership unobtainable for many residents—both practically and financially.
NRA-ILA says Washington residents still have time to act and protect their gun ownership and hunting rights by contacting their state representatives and urging them to oppose HB 1163. To make your views heard on this egregious bill, click here to access the NRA-ILA “Take Action” button, or call the Washington state general legislative hotline at 800-562-6000.
This is more proof of the extent to which America’s gun owners, hunters and shooters must remain vigilant. Those pushing for anti-gun legislation are also pushing for anti-hunting measures enroute to quashing our firearm freedoms. Please stay tuned to the NRA-ILA and NRA Hunters’ Leadership Forum hunting news website for updates as this legislative session progresses.
